Recovering clean, not just recovering
This is the capability worth understanding, and it is a genuine advance over older backup thinking.
Attackers commonly sit in an environment for weeks before triggering anything, which means recent backups may already contain their work. Restoring from one puts the intruder straight back. Veeam scans backups for malware and lets you recover to a known-clean point rather than the most recent one, and its immutable-by-design storage means the copies cannot be altered or deleted inside their retention window, even by an administrator account an attacker has taken over.
Together those two things answer the question that actually matters during an incident: not "do we have a backup" but "can we trust it".
Portability is a strategic asset
Veeam is deliberately not tied to one hypervisor, one cloud, or one hardware vendor. That sounds like a feature until your platform economics change, and then it is the thing that gives you options.
